Columbia Union
College promotes itself as “…a small private college near the
nation’s capital with deeply-felt Christian roots.” (from your web
site). I would ask you and the Board of Trustees to consider the
relevance of that statement. The loss of a cherished Christian
music station to a non-Christian format merely because of a larger
bid amount would seriously make me question the religious roots so
espoused. I would also question the reason for the original intent
of expanding WGTS’ broadcast range, if within a year of such
overwhelming public support of those giving requests, the station
was sold for mere profit with no view towards a clearly needed
entertainment venue.
I ask you and the
Board of Trustees, as I know you will, to pray for God’s will in
this matter and follow it.

Isn't this becoming the
trend for Adventists? How is selling critical property generating
souls for christ improving his soon coming? Have the priority for
adventists changed from soulwinning to money making? Have you
forgotten that God takes care of his children?
If this sale takes place, I don't think its worth giving my tithe to
the division anymore. You are just going to take my children's
favorite radio station away from me.

Please keep WGTS alive. Money is not
everything in the world. Money cannot buy everything. Do not go
against God's plans. Do not become a hindrance in the spread of
Gospel.
WGTS is like a beacon of hope and peace in the world of sin, pride,
lust, greed & deceit. Please keep WGTS alive.

The public will
not approve of the CUC Board's decision if it decides to treat a
non-profit organization (especially a Christina non-profit
organization) in such a negative manner in order to make a profit.
Imagine the headlines -- " Columbia Union College Board of Trustees,
chaired by David Weigley, exploits a Christian NON-PROFIT
organization in order to make a PROFIT of its own." Selling to
radio station to any other bidder than WGTS will bring bad publicly
for the CUC Board, and it will not be the Christians running the
news stories - it will be the journalists looking for the latest
scoop to expose. It would be the famous Christian artists spreading
the news as well -- and it will carry far in the nation of how a
Christian radio station was treated.

I am very sad and
appalled that the Christian college, Columbia Union College , would
even THINK of turning over their radio station to a non Christian
media!!!!! That seems the equivalent of selling our churches to a
bar.........I understand EVERYTHING is a business, including running
a church or college or radio station, but SOME THINGS Christians
just shouldn't consider doing EVEN IF its the best "financial
decision". Trusting God in all things would include trusting God in
your financial operations of Columbia Union College . PLEASE allow
WGTS to continue its ministry to all of us believers who are
uplifted each day by its inspiring music......AND more importantly
its ministry to the nonbeliever whose life is changed by their
music!!!!!

I could see making
such a poor CHRISTIAN decision could have an impact on your college
attendance as well. I'm sending my son to Messiah College in PA,
and if I discovered THEY were making such poor Christian decisions,
I don't think I'd leave him there.........WHAT NEXT.........take the
Bible teaching out of your classroom and then what do you
have..........same old, same old, like every other college (or radio
station) in the country!!!!!!!!
Please dare to be
brave and TRUST GOD IN ALL THINGS!!!!!!!!
I would like to
express my concern and frustration that the Columbia Union College
Board of Trustees is considering selling WGTS. I realize that the
college is in dire financial circumstances at this time, but I
believe that selling the radio station is merely a "band-aid"
approach to the problem. As has happened in similar situations, the
asset is sold, the money is spent in record time, and the problem is
not remedied.
WGTS is a huge
blessing to the CUC community and many neighboring communities. I
believe that it is one of the best evangelistic tools we have in
this area. The music is uplifting and reaches across age, race, and
gender. In addition, it broadcasts several Seventh-day Adventist
programs to a community that wouldn't otherwise know who we are.
Why would we
divest ourselves of a ministry that is so valuable? WGTS is
self-supporting and it pays rent to the college. It is not a burden
to the Union , it is a blessing.
I'm asking you to
look beyond the monetary value of WGTS and see the impact it is
having on our community. Please allow the WGTS Board of Directors
to continue ministering to our community by purchasing the station.
In order that the
station may continue to be a blessing to so many, I ask that you
please accept the purchase proposal for the station from the WGTS
Board of Directors who have been partners with you in this
ministry. The WGTS Board of Directors may not be able to provide
you with the highest purchase bid offer, but they are able to offer
you more than other bidders – they are able to offer their
experience from partnership with you and their dedication to this
ministry so that the station can continue to be a blessing to our
community.

Please don't just
look at Columbia Union's bottom line. This entire country seems to
operate on the bottom line and companies and individuals doing what
it right in their own eyes and not what is right in the eyes of a
God who is watching and will judge the wicked and give to each
according to his deeds. There is more at stake than finances, the
souls of generations are at stake here. Please don't just go with
the highest bid, accept WGTS' bid so they can remain on the air.

If the Columbia
Union College Board of Trustees thinks that it is in the best
interest of the college to sell the station, then it is imperative
that the change in ownership only happen with a guarantee that the
station would remain as a Christian radio station. How else could
you, in good faith, expect those who have donated thousands of
dollars, to be satisfied with such a decision? I urge you to either
sell the station to the WGTS Board of Directors, or if that is not
possible, to sell the station to a company that will continue the
excellent Christian ministry that you began.

A reliable source
said that the WGTS Board of Directors has submitted a proposal to
purchase the station to continue its ministry. It will be a big
relief if you would consider its bid, knowing that this station had
existed for years having saved people's souls each day through the
music and programs.

We have been
informed that Columbia Union College is in the process of selling a
very valuable ministry, the WGTS radio station. We have supported
WGTS for many, many years and think that this is a great mistake.
This station has reached many people for Christ. With the change in
formats, it is also reaching more young people. It continues to be
a light for Christ in this dark world. We know that there are
financial problems at CUC, and we also have an interest in CUC since
our son graduated from there. Do we not believe that God will
provide for all our needs? We can not believe that God wants this
ministry to stop. If the college must sell WGTS, we pray that you
will accept the bid from the WGTS Board of Directors so that God's
work can continue through this WGTS radio station. We pray that God
will direct you in this decision, and that WGTS will continue to
spread Gods message through the Washington, D.C. area and beyond.

I received word
that you are considering selling 91.9 and that you will be voting on
this issue very soon. I am writing to ask you to please consider
accepting the offer WGTS has made to you even thought it is less
money. I am sure you will be rewarded beyond belief for not selling
to someone with more money.
With Christianity
being forced out of so many of our venues already, we need WGTS
91.9FM to remain in place. Please allow the WGTS Board of
Directors' dollar proposal, along with the value of their character,
out bid any other proposal. Doing so allows Columbia Union College
Board of Trustees to send a faithful message which will be heard
around the Nation.

WGTS is such a
unique radio station and it would be a travesty should it go off the
air as the wonderful Christian music station that it is.
Please accept the
WGTS Board of Directors Purposal to Purchase the station so they can
continue this wonderful Christian ministry.
As a long-term
listener and supporter of WGTS, I could write pages of testimony
regarding how WGTS touches my life on a daily basis, inspiring me,
keeping me grounded and facilitating my faith formation.
However, my assumption is that the decision to sell the station is
largely based on financial and strategically-based factors. In my
opinion, nothing is more important for an organization than
maintaining integrity to their mission and putting ideals into
action. With that in mind, I would like to ask the Board of
Trustees at Columbia Union College to contemplate their mission
statement and the ‘gateway to service’ that is so fully incorporated
into what sets Columbia Union apart from other educational
institutions. As the Columbia Union website indicates, “Another key
element in this mix is the distinctive spiritual atmosphere on
campus, which sees spirituality not just as an individual devotional
experience (as important as that is), but also through an interface
with the world of ideas and a desire to make a difference in the
world through service and through a ministry of hope.”
I challenge the Board of Trustees to find a ministry that
exemplifies this definition of community service and the mission of
Columbia Union College more than WGTS 91.9FM. The music and people
of WGTS serve the DC area by bringing hope to multitudes of
listeners each day. I implore you to stand behind the mission of
Columbia Union College by keeping WGTS 91.9 on the air. Give WGTS
the opportunity to deliver the message of hope, faith and Christ to
everyone their station touches.

I agree that the
monetary gain could very well make the highest offer a worthwhile
temporal choice, but the WGTS board's offer, in the long term,
offers a much more eternal benefit.

I know CUC is in
trouble financially. They have had problems for many, many years.
I don't enjoy the thought that CUC may have to close their doors (I
am a CUC alumna). However, I believe it would be a bigger mistake to
sell WGTS, and especially to a non-Christian source--not to mention,
that would make a lot of people angry at the SDA church!!

I do hope you and
your fellow Board Members will consider any way to keep the station
a Christian station. Dr. Fuller's letter states that the Board of
Directors for WGTS has submitted a proposal to purchase the
station. I wholeheartedly support this bid and would contribute to
the station financially to help them achieve winning the bid if you
choose to sell the station.

Perhaps your
college needs the money. I attended a small Christian college in
Rochester , NY , Roberts Wesleyan College , and they have had
stressing times financially but have always trusted God for taking
care of their financial needs. God has always provided and in the
13 years since my graduation God has continued to bless them for
their uncompromising standards. They have built a cultural center,
administrative building, new dorm, and are currently building a new
library. The student population has almost doubled. I believe this
is because of God's faithfulness to God's faithful people.
I am writing to
ask you to accept the offer by WGTS to purchase their station so
that Christian radio may continue in Washington , DC . This is an
amazing ministry in this area and I believe a critical presence.
While I am certain that more money can be made by selling to a
non-Christian organization, it would be a tremendous loss. Please
do everything in your power to ensure that WGTS can continue as a
Christian music station.

The Columbia Union
has two distinct ministries in Takoma Park , MD : Columbia Union
College and WGTS. The ministries of both institutions are important
and each has a great impact for Christ. But, one is economically
feasible (WTGS) and one is not (CUC). Selling WGTS to a third party
or to the Columbia Union is not a reasonable solution for making CUC
economically feasible because: (1) it only masks the financial
problems at CUC, (2) postpones and avoids making tough decisions
that need to be made today, and (3) sacrifices a thriving ministry
for a troubled ministry.
As an alumnus of
CUC, I urge you to sell CUC to Washington Adventist Hospital . This
solution will allow the Adventist church to continue its ministry in
the Takoma Park community and to continue its radio ministry
throughout the Washington , DC area.

I implore you to
consider the WGTS Board of Directors’ proposal to purchase the
station despite having received bids that may be higher. I will pray
that you don’t fall into the trap that so many others have and let
money make the decision for you. Please do the right thing and
allow this programming to continue to bless all those who listen.

I have recently
learned that Columbia Union College may consider selling WGTS radio
station. I am a single mother who has raised my daughter with
assistance from WGTS, 91.9 FM, everyday for the past eight years.
Neither my daughter nor I can imagine life without this incredibly
positive and uplifting influence in our daily routine. As a sixteen
year old, I believe my daughter needs to hear the message this radio
station offers now, more than at any other time in her life. The
value of this station cannot be measured in monetary terms. Please
prayerfully consider your discussion and vote by the Board of
Trustees regarding this vital influence. I know this radio station
not only affects lives here in the Nation’s Capital, but also
throughout the world wide web.

I realize that
business is business, but at some point and time, businesses and
business owners need to know that some people still have values and
that we should stand strong for what is right, sometimes that choice
does not exceed the dollars, but at least we know we are following
God's word and not our own desires and we will be able to sleep at
night. I know, my husband owns his own business and makes those
decisions every day.
Our family hopes and prays that the board will consider accepting a
lower bid and allowing WGTS to continue its ministry. There are so
many people out there that listen to this station, please encourage
others to support this, it is important!!!

This is the second
time that I am getting involved to keep WGTS in the hands of the
people who are truly reaching out to people with the Present Truth.
Since we stopped the sale the last time, the station has appreciated
in millions. By God's grace the dedicated people in the station
have taken it to new heights. It is rated as the number 2 station in
the whole country by Arbitron. It is a constant source of support
to Christian pastors in the Washington Area as it continues to bring
new souls to the Cross.
I would request
you to let the present team continue the good work. I would request
you not consider any other bids, but work with the present team so
that WGTS could be set up as an Independent Ministry, and pay
the college for the purchase. Please do not silence the voice of WGTS.

I just want to
encourage you to consider the value of WGTS not just on the
“Bottom-Line” but more importantly on the “Finish-Line” of life.
Most of us do not have opportunities to make decisions in life that
will either benefit or impact negatively on the lives of a great
many people. The Columbia Union College Board of Trustees should
know that their decision on the issue of potentially selling the
WGTS Station is one that will not only be deciding on the fate of an
asset, but more importantly may be deciding to give up the
opportunity to impact the fate of many souls for eternity. I
personally urge the Board to continue to hold WGTS as a vital
ministry of Columbia Union College and I will be praying that the
wisest decision will be selected by the Board. Thank you very much
for your time and consideration

I
truly believe that not everything is about the final $ on the lines
in the account books. I believe that sometimes simply doing the
right thing leads to much greater fulfillment than a few bucks. So
I ask you to please reconsider selling the radio station. I ask you
to please listen to those whose lives have been absolutely changed
by WGTS and its messages of love.
